The purpose of God's grace. John 17:3 states: "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." God's grace allows us to see, know, and experience Him. To know love, to live the truth, and to participate in the divine nature (2 Peter 1) is to experience the overwhelming grace and mercy of our LORD and Savior. It looks like worship on Sunday morning, but it also looks like stopping on the side of the road to help someone who needs a jump. It looks like sharing the gospel, but it also looks like calling that one friend you haven't heard from in a while to make sure they're okay. It looks like community group on Wednesday evening, making homemade apple cider and talking about the deer a friend of ours got that week. It is by engaging through the reading of scripture, but it also looks like asking your wife how her day is when she gets home. It looks like being vulnerable so the one who took our sin and shame can heal the innermost depths of our soul. The purpose of God's grace . . . to be with and become more like Jesus. To know Him as a friend, to cherish Him and His words, to simply abide and sit in solitude with God, not to ask of anything, but simply to receive what He has already so graciously provided. To breathe His spirit in, the Ruach, and receive a fresh wind of life. To see how He sees, to love how He loves, and to show kindness when no one else does, is the purpose of divine grace. It is ours for the receiving, but will we slow down enough to do so?
